From Sheet Metal Technician to Packaging Specialist

Whenever a package arrives at Lukas Briganti’s place, he’s not just interested in the contents. He finds the packaging just as fascinating: What kind of tape was used? How was the package sealed? And what other solutions might have been used?

Lukas has developed a passion for packaging solutions over the past few years. After all, he originally came from a completely different line of work.

A Career Change into the World of Packaging

Lukas has been part of the PRODINGER Verpackung AG team since October 2021. He first learned about the company through Managing Director Tobias Sommer, whom he already knew. He spent a day as a guest employee in the office, and shortly thereafter, Lukas began working in the Packaging department.

Prior to that, he had worked for about 15 years as a sheet metal technician in the ventilation industry. Packaging, purchasing, and office work were therefore uncharted territory for him at first. «I came in as a career changer and had to learn a lot from scratch. I received excellent support right from the start.»

At first, Lukas worked across the entire packaging division, handling orders, special orders, and production, among other things. Over time, his focus shifted increasingly toward purchasing.

When the Packaging and Film divisions were merged, he gained a great deal of new knowledge. Kai, in particular, helped him get up to speed on the vast world of films.

«Film is significantly more extensive than packaging. I had to familiarize myself with many new products and suppliers. But that’s exactly what makes the work so exciting.»

Adhesive tapes are Lukas‘ specialty

Today, Lukas Briganti works part-time (50 percent) at PRODINGER Verpackung AG and is primarily responsible for purchasing packaging and film products. He is particularly knowledgeable about Adhesive Tapes and Strapping from.

His work, however, is by no means limited to ordering products. Lukas checks delivery dates, keeps customers informed, takes note of any adjustments, and, when needed, also assists with order entry.

His goal is to ensure that, whenever possible, a customer never simply hears that something isn’t possible or isn’t currently available. «I was taught from the very beginning: If something doesn’t work, we try to offer an alternative. The customer should feel that we’re taking their concern seriously.»

For example, he was able to help a customer by offering an alternative solution to bridge the gap until the originally requested material was delivered.

Better to be a supporter than a lone fighter

Lukas describes his own role on the team as Behind-the-Scenes Supporters. For him, sharing knowledge is simply part of the job, just as he himself has benefited from the experience of his colleagues.

«Here, you're not just left to figure things out on your own. If there's something you don't know, someone will help you out. And if I can show a new employee something today, I'm just as happy to do so.»

It is precisely this kind of interaction with one another that is one of the reasons Lukas enjoys working at PRODINGER Verpackung AG so much: «I feel valued. It’s much more personal and family-like than at many other employers.»

He also values the open dialogue with Managing Director Tobias Sommer. Questions or problems can be addressed directly, and they work together to find a solution.

Even after work, he can't quite let go of packaging

His professional curiosity doesn't stop at the office door. Whenever Lukas receives a package at home, he likes to take a look at how other companies package their goods.

Unsurprisingly, he is particularly interested in adhesive technology.

«I actually look at what types of adhesive tapes companies use and how the solutions differ. For example, I find it fascinating to observe that paper adhesive tapes are being used more and more often.»

He is also fascinated by new technical solutions in the field of packaging. He finds machines for automated tape application and pallet wrappers particularly interesting. His background in the trades is also an asset here.

Sports and Family as a Balance

Outside of work, he devotes a large part of his time to his family. Lukas has three children, ages 16, 13, and 7, and works with his wife to balance his career and daily family life.

Sports also play a big role in his life. Lukas enjoys snowboarding and playing basketball—these days, mostly with friends. Soccer is also an integral part of family life: his two older children play themselves, and the family watches major tournaments together.

Once a year, they also head to the stadium to watch Inter Milan, the team that his children, in particular, root for.

«I couldn't be happier.»

When asked what he hopes for in terms of his professional future at PRODINGER Verpackung AG, Lukas doesn’t have to think twice: «I couldn’t be happier with my job and my 50 percent position. I really enjoy doing this.»

The team is also aware that the economic conditions aren't always easy. That makes team spirit all the more important to Lukas.

«Tobias keeps telling us: »We can do this together.' And that's exactly how I feel, too. We work well together and are a bit like a little family."

And what’s his favorite PRODINGER product? Lukas stays true to his passion:

«Without a doubt: adhesive technology. Basically, everything related to it.»
